Do You Have A Tattoo ?

Date: 08 May 2012

Did you get it in secret, to mark an occasion or as a promise to yourself?
Are you over 55 or up? Are you from County Waterford and a woman ?
Did you get it in your twenties, or your teens, in your forties or last week?
Women of County Waterford would you care to share the stories behind your tattoo?
Then the Arts Office of Waterford County Council would like to speak with you.

Bealtaine - Ireland’s nationwide festival, celebrating creativity as we age, commissioned photographer Aidan Kelly to create an exhibition of original photographs of older people and their tattoos.

Now the Arts Office of Waterford County and Bealtaine Festival are bringing this exhibition ‘Ink’ to the Old Market House Arts Centre, Dungarvan from May 18th 2012.

Aidan will be paying a visit to Dungarvan during the exhibition with his mobile photographic studio. He'd like to talk to older women about their tattoos and the stories behind them. With their permission he'd like to make a photograph portrait of them. He's collected some amazing stories from women with tattoos and is keen to find more as the men have been very well catered for in this exhibition to date. Selected images from County Waterford will be included in the exhibition on future tours.

Aidan Kelly is an artist practicing in fine art photography and working in other platforms including photography for design, press, and the music and film industry.

If you would like to be considered for this unique Bealtaine experience please contact the Arts Office on 058/41416 or email: morgan@waterfordcoco.ie by Wednesday 16th May 2012.    "Some marks we make on ourselves, the rest time makes on us"
