UCC Diploma in Disability Studies in Dungarvan

The Centre for Adult Continuing Education, University College Cork is very pleased to announce that the Diploma in Disability Studies is coming to Dungarvan.  This Diploma is a two-year part-time course consisting of three hours, one night a week over a period of 24 weeks each year.  Its aim is to enable participants to develop a critical awareness of the factors operating in the world of disability, to explore the ways in which different issues overlap and how this affects the lives of people living with impairments.  Participants are encouraged to challenge their own attitudes in relation to disability. The first year takes a mainly theoretical approach while the second year concentrates on the more practical issues affecting the lives of people living with impairment. On completion graduates will be able to be more aware of their own attitudes and possible prejudices towards disability; be aware of disability affects people in their daily lives with particular reference to the social model of disability; have an understanding of how a disability impacts not only on the individual, but also on the wider community and be able to carry out research ethically. Applications are currently being accepted for the program. For further information please contact Mike Masterson on 087 6910091 or mikemasterson1@gmail.com
