Trappatoni to Open Dungarvan Railway Walk and Cycle Path this Friday.

Date: 07 Feb 2012

The final seal of approval will be given to Dungarvan and Abbeyside’s new Walk and Cycle Path along the route of the old railway line this Friday at 2pm, when no less a sports star than the Irish Soccer Manager, Giovanni Trappatoni will come to town to cut the ribbon on this magnificent amenity.

Developed at a cost of €650,000, the walkway received an overwhelming endorsement from the public when, on a wet and cold Saturday morning just a few weeks ago, over 6oo people of all ages turned out to take part in Operation Transformation organised by Waterford Sports Partnership.

Giovanni Trappatoni and John Delaney  With Ireland’s qualification for their first International Finals for a decade sending them to Poland and The Ukraine this Summer, the stars of the Irish Soccer team and their popular Manager, Giovanni Trappatoni have risen to even greater heights.

That alone will bring the crowds out to The Causeway at 2pm this coming Friday when the personable Italian and Irish Soccer Manager will cut the tape to officially open the new facility accompanied by FAI Secretary, John Delaney.

Presiding on the occasion will be the Mayor of Dungarvan, Cllr. Teresa Wright and Members and Officials of the Town Council, as well as our World Champion, Kate Veale and representatives of Sporting Organisations from the district.   Many members of the public are also expected to attend.

It will, of necessity, be a short ceremony as Mr. Trappatoni is due to attend the Dungarvan Soccer Club Grounds at 2.30pm to officially open their new facilities there.

This is a great boost for the town and the many fans of the Boys in Green as well as their successful manager will be delighted to make him and his party welcome.

The other positive and very welcome news this week (see other reports in this issue) is the announcement by the Minister of State for Public and Commuter Transport Alan Kelly, that Dungarvan will share in the funding of €23million under the Smarter Travel Initiative. Dungarvan has received a total of €7.2million from the fund to be spent over a 5-year period to transform Dungarvan Town into a Smarter Travel Area, promoting cycling and walking and reducing car travel.

The Causeway and Dungarvan Soccer Club should be agog with excitement on Friday afternoon when another little bit of history will be added to the annals of the town.
