Accessible Services

Trying to make our Services accessible

Using technology, we have tried to make our websites easier for people to use. We are altering and adapting our buildings to make sure people with different needs can use them. We are training our staff to help people in an open manner to make Waterford County Council easy to use for the widest number of people.
You can read or download our Disability Act (2005) Implementation Plan 2009-2010. This tells you how Waterford County Council is responding to the Disability Act, including our Accessible Information Policy.

There are also other freeware products such as NVDA screen reader (NonVidual Desktop Access). You may need some technical knowledge to download and install one of these.

Plain English - Using everyday language

The Council uses too much jargon and too many complicated words when we are trying to tell people about what we do. We are looking at our websites, application forms and leaflets to take this complicated language away and replace it with plain English that is better for everyone. We have so much information that we have to do this bit by bit.

Our Websites

Our websites will be easy to use and deliver services, provide information and promote Waterford Local Authorities and County Waterford to our customers effectively and efficiently. We will be offering an improved service on:

www.waterfordcoco.ie Waterford County Council’s main website covering what we do and leading to information from Dungarvan, Lismore and Tramore Town Councils.

www.waterfordcountylibrary.ie our County Library Service website, where you can find a huge amount of digital resources. Digital resources are books and printed material on your screen.

www.workinwaterford.ie which has information on living and working in County Waterford.

www.investinwaterford.ie for those looking for a good base for their business.

www.waterfordtourism.ie for those interested in finding out what’s on in Waterford.

www.theseankellytour.com the official website of the annual event that aims to help make County Waterford an extremely cycle-friendly place.

We always appreciate your feedback. If you have any comments or suggestions, please e-mail them to us at coordinate@waterfordcoco.ie

Use of Social Media

Waterford County Council will use social media (mostly Facebook and Twitter) to improve access to information and services for the public. You can follow us on Twitter and like us on Facbook to get the latest updates. Any item published as a 'News Item' or an 'Event' on our websites will be pushed out to Twitter and Facebook. Twitter & Facebook are managed throughout working hours, low level monitoring continued at other times.
