Downloads

Each time we use a link to a document, we outline the following:

  • Type of Document - Word, PDF or Excel
  • File Size indicated in KB

This information will help you decide whether to download the file to your local machine.

Approximate Download Times
Each download size is indicated in KB.
Over a 56Kbps modem (a typical home dial-up modem) :

  • 50 KB will take around 7 seconds to download
  • 100 KB will take approximately 14 seconds
  • 200 KB will take around 28 seconds and so on.

Difficulty Downloading Files
If you are having problems downloading a file from our site try the following:

  • Right-click on the link to the file
  • Select 'Save Target As'
  • Save the file to your computer

You can then open the publication from the location you have saved it in.

Reading Files

Most people will be able to read Microsoft Word files. To read content that you have downloaded as a PDF, you will need a copy of some free software called Adobe Acrobat reader.

You can download the software here - Download Adobe Acrobat reader.
We use PDF's to make sure that you receive the document with a specific layout - for example forms, or reports where the layout is important, but we always provide a Word alternative as not all PDF's are readable for people with impaired sight.

For access to PDF documents for people with visual disability, see the Adobe Acrobat support information and tools download page.
