Lismore Millennium Park

Origins
Lismore Millenium ParkThe initial impetus for a park in Lismore came from the Lismore MoChuda Development Group when they approached Waterford County Council about the feasibility of a park in Lismore.  The need for a focal point in the town was readily accepted and the park would not only provide an additional attraction for tourist but would also be of immense benefit to the people of the town.   Mr Donal Connolly Waterford County Manager embraced the whole concept of a park from the start and immediately committed significant funding to the project.   It was agreed that the works would be carried out by the direct Labour force of the Council. The Lismore MoChuda Group contributed £10,000 towards the cost of the park with the balance amounting to £75,000 being met from the funds from Waterford County Council.

Work began in the park in early 2001 and opened to the public on 14th May 2002.

Location
Lismore was very fortunate in that a site owned by Lismore Estates immediately presented itself.  The site in the very heart of the town comprises just over an acre and was very much overgrown and heavily wooded. A long-term lease between Lismore Castle and Waterford County Council was negotiated.  The park itself is central to a number of local amenities including direct access to the local public toilets and the public car park is across the road.
