Planting

PlantingAll work in relation to the planting etc came under the expert guidance of the Councils horticulturist Mr Eoin Dullea.   One of the most appealing aspects of the site was the range and number of mature trees.  Such trees include a stately beech, a grouping of four towering populars and outstanding winter colour given by the berries of the holly tree.  The waterfall is set among a group of sycamore trees and which together with the abundance of Lime trees offer the visitor a sense of a true parkland setting.

PlantingThree areas of formal planting were included as part of the design.  The Obelisk is surrounded by holly hedge, which encompasses herbaceous planting.  The edge of the centre path is lined by a formal box hedge, which opens out to the formal pool.    As one stands in the Gazebo, you are surrounded by herbaceous planting which is situated in the dappled shade from the trees above. The trees have been underplanted with daffodils and crocus to give springtime colour.

As can be seen, Lismore Millennium Park hosts a number of interesting features and belies the small area that it covers.  Its construction is a testimony to the skills and expertise of the staff of Waterford County Council and will be source of much enjoyment for future generations to come.
