Tidy Towns – Civic Reception

Date: 10 Sep 2004

Lismore Town Council hosted a civic reception for the local Tidy Towns committee as part of the Town's celebration in winning the National Tidy Towns Award. The committee felt that any celebration should encompass the community as a whole such is the level of cooperation and commitment it receives from the people of the town.

An open day in the Millennium Park was arranged for 26th Sept where the people of the town were invited to celebrate an historic win. Blessed with fine weather a huge crowd turned out on the day. Chairperson of the Tidy Towns, Rose Dowd addressed the crowd, thanked the people for their help and cooperation during the past year. Stating that this win was the culmination of many years of hard work by the Tidy Towns Committee she went to thank the staff of Waterford County Council for their input in transforming the infrastructure of the town.

Mayor Peter Ahearne in an address thanked the Tidy Towns Committee for their diligence and persistence in putting Lismore forward each year in this competition. Commenting on the size of the crowd present, he felt that it was clear that the people of the town were wholeheartedly behind the committee. He complimented all those who operate the litter rota, plant gardens, paint houses and generally take pride in presenting Lismore as a wonderful community and place to live. He also complimented the staff of Waterford County Council and in particular the outdoor staff.

Refreshments were made available to all, with the Ballyduff Comhaltas entertaining the crowd

To mark the occasion, Mayor Peter Ahearne took great pride on behalf of the Town Council in presenting Rose Dowd with a hand cut Ring Crystal urn. The piece was inscribed with the town crest and made a fitting memento of such a wonderful occasion.
