Census

A census of population was taken every 10 years from 1821-1911. Unfortunately, due to the destruction of the Public Record Office in 1922 most of these were destroyed up until 1901. As a result of this destruction the 1911 Census was released early to the public. The 1901 and 1911 census forms are available to researchers.

The 1901 and 1911 census are available on microfilm at the County Archive. Contact the County Archive to book a session.

The 1901 and 1911 Census records are also available online at www.census.nationalarchives.ie These online records can be searched by name and by townland, and the website provides detailed guidelines on how to search the census records.
