The fourth annual 123 Festival of Drama for Waterford took place in September 2010 in the Town Hall, Dungarvan
This year's theme was Comedy in all its forms and the festival attracted many newly written works especially for the Festival. The Festival was adjudicated by Biddy White-Lennon, who proved her professionalism by kindly noting the successes of each performer, director and writer. With prizes by Lismore-based artist Jane Jermyn, the awards ceremony was ably managed by Margaret Organ, County Arts Officer and main sponsor for the event. Vanessa Hyde, 123 Festival Director thanked Waterford County Council for its significant support and said that it was encouraging to see so many groups of the county and city represented at this unique Festival. The results for the 2010 Festival are:
- Best Monologue. Nominations: Tess Healy in "Mills and Booned", Paula Drohan in "Fake Tan", James Lenane with "Tall Tales", Denise Quinn in "Bardot Bites", Elaine Diaz as "Shirley Valentine" and Irene Kelleher as "Imke Frisch".
Winner: Denise Quinn, Waterford Dramatic Society.
- Best Duologue. Nominations: Village Theatre Group with "More Wine Darling" (Henry O'Keeffe & Shane Collender), Ballyduff Drama Group with "A Midsummer Night's Dream" (Courtney Canning & Brid Verling), Brideview Drama with "The Importance of Being Earnest" (Alan Martin & Irene Kelleher) and John Stack of Ballynameela with "Pictures" (John Stack and Marie Sheehan).
Winner: Ballyduff Drama Group.
- Best Short Play. Nominations: KGK Drama Knockanore with "Mules Marinieres" by Mary Marron (directed by Tomas Roche): Waterford Ways with "Do Not Resuscitate" (Directed by Elaine O'Brien), and Aisteiori an tSean Phobail with "Foreigners" by Hank Regan (Directed by Liam Ryan),
Winner: Aisteiori as tSean Phobail.
- Jim O'Brien KCK Permanent Memorial Award for Best Comedy Moment (presented by his wife Patricia and daughters Fiona and Honor). Nominations: Brideview Drama for the dance sequence in "Mules Marinieres", John Stack for his birth scene in "Pictures", and the laptop suddenly being flipped out from under the cloth in "Google Box", by Alan Cliff, Waterford.
Winner: Brideview Drama.
- Best Dramatic Moment. Nominations: The character Valerie reading her 'Death by Ambulance' poem in "Do not Resuscitate" by Waterford Ways, the closing moments of "Pictures" by John Stack, and the moment the little girl reveals she is a killer (perfomed by Irene Kelleher, in the monologue Imke Frisch).
Winner - Waterford Ways.
- Best New Writing. Nominations: Fergus Cooper of Ranting Rebels Theatre Group Tramore with his duologue, "Gis a Job"; Tess Healy Maguire of Brideview Drama with her monologue "Mills and Booned"; Mary Cooke of Waterford with her monologue "Fake Tan", Dolores Ronayne of Ring with her monologue, "Kundalini", John Stack's duologue, "Pictures", and Denise Quinn's monologue, "Bardot Bites".
Winner - Tess Healy Maguire.
- Best Director. Nominations: Tomas Roche for "Mules Marinieres", John Stack for "Pictures".
Winner - John Stack.
- Best Overall Acting Performance. Nominations: Tess Healy Maguire for "Mills and Booned", Denise Quinn for "Bardot Bites", Marie Sheehan for "Pictures".
Winner - Marie Sheehan.
- Youth Award. Nominations: Aoife Bennett of Lismore Dramatic Society in the monologue, "Auditioners", and Harriet Bennett Lenane's (Lismore Dramatic Society) monologue from John B Keane's "Moll".
Winner - Aoife Bennett.
- Adjudicator's Award (for writing, directing or acting).
Mary Cooke of Waterford for the writing in her monologue, "Fake Tan".
- Best 'Stella' night (where audience and performers alike did their best to portray a very drunk Marlon Brando!).
Winner - Jack Aherne.
