Waterford County Fire & Rescue Service maintains round the clock emergency cover to protect life and property. The Fire & Rescue Service covers the administrative areas of Waterford County Council and Dungarvan Town Council. Agreements are in place with Cork County Council, South Tipperary County Council and Waterford City Council to provide additional cover within

, as required. Waterford County Fire & Rescue Service reciprocates by covering the

, and South Tipperary County Council areas and Waterford City Council area if the need arises. Waterford County Fire and Rescue attends an average of 1,180 incidents per year. These include fires, road traffic collisions, chemical spills and other emergency situation.
What the Fire & Rescue Service Does
The Chief Fire Officer has overall responsibility for operation of the Fire & Rescue Service within the County. He is assisted in this role by two Senior Assistant Chief Fire Officers, two Assistant Chief Fire Officers, a Building Control Officer, a Civil Defence Officer and Administrative and Clerical staff, based at Fire Service Headquarters in Dungarvan.
Staff based at Fire & Rescue Service Headquarters administer all matters relating to:
- Operational Fire & Rescue Service – Vehicles, Equipment, Fire Fighter Training and Recruit Training
- Emergency Planning and Major Emergency Management – Predicting and preparing for emergency situations and coordinating a response
- Fire safety – Monitoring existing buildings for potentially dangerous situations, certifying new buildings for compliance with Building Regulations, licensing; including petroleum licensing
- Community Fire Safety – Public information; Schools programmes; Smoke Alarm programmes
