So Waterford “do your part” for the Environment and for Ireland to reach our EU target for 2011

Recycle your Waste Batteries

WEEE Battery Recycling Flashmob

Reduce - Reduce - Reduce - Reduce - Reduce

  • Cut down on packaging
  • Don't buy individually-wrapped or excessively wrapped items
  • Buy pump action sprays instead of aerosols
  • Print and photocopy on both sides of a page of paper
  • Buy your fresh produce loose to avoid unecessary packaging
  • Write to companies that send you junk mail and ask them to stop
  • Maintain or repair - Minimise your waste and it will cost you less in the long run
  • Avoid disposable items e.g. cups and plates, napkins, and batteries.  Use and re-use cloth napkins and durable plastic plates and cups for picnics
  • Learn to share - If you are only going to use something a few times, then borrow the product if you can, and likewise share your products with your friends
  • If you feel that you do not need something anymore, but it could be of use to someone else, then sell the product or give it away

Reuse - Reuse - Reuse - Reuse - Reuse - Reuse

  • Always buy refillable products so that you can reuse the container
  • Don't throw clothes away, either pass them to a friend or member of the family or give them to a charity group or keep them for the Council's biannual collection of textiles (details to follow)
  • Buy good quality items that will last and can be repaired
  • Buy a battery recharger
  • Re-use paper printed on one side only for scrap pads
  • Refuse unnecessary shopping bags, re-use old bags or get a sturdy shopping bag

Recycle - Recycle - Recycle - Recycle - Recycle

  • Give the natural resources trapped in our rubbish a new lease of life.  Recycling in Co Waterford has never been easier
  • There is no need to sort the recyclables, just put all of the materials listed overleaf into a clear plastic sack, remembering to empty and rinse containers, and and leave it out for collection
  • The collection day is the same day as the Council wheel-bin collection day and will take place on the week highlighted green on the calendar available on this web site
  • The charge is ?2.50 per sack.  The charge for wheelie bins is ?14.00 per collection
  • Remember to collect glass separately and bring it to the recycling centres
  • If the packaging is not recyclable don't buy it. Create a demand for recycling by buying products made from recycled materials.
