Waste Management Regulation

The Waste Enforcement Section of Waterford County Council has responsibility for enforceing the following environmental legislation:

• Waste Management Act 1996, as amended.
• Waste Management (Packaging) Regulations 2007 as amended.
• Waste Management (Collection Permit) Regulations 2007
• Waste Management (Facility Permit and Registration) Regulations 2007
• Waste Management (Environmental Levy) (Plastic Bag) Regulations 2001
• Waste Management (Movement of Hazardous Waste) Regulations 1998
• Waste Management (Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment) Regulations 2005
• Waste Management (End-of-Life-Vehicles) Regulations 2006
• Waste Management (Batteries and Accumulators) Regulations 2008
• Waste Management (Tyres and Waste Tyres) Regulations 2007
• Waste Management (Food Waste) Regulations 2009
• Waste Management (Prohibition of Waste Disposal by Burning) Regulations 2009


The section also has responsibility for the management of the environmental complaints system and the investigation of complaints under the Waste Management Act 1996, as amended .

The section ensures producer responsibility and compliance under the various legislation above. The enforcement role in the Environment Section is carried out by authorised officers, appointed and conferred with powers under the Waste Management Acts 1996, as amended.
