Procurement Opportunities with Waterford County Local Authorities

Public procurement is the acquisition, whether under formal contract or not, of works, supplies and services by public bodies. It ranges from the purchase of routine supplies or services to formal tendering and placing contract for large infrastructural projects by a wide and diverse range of contracting authorities.

Waterford County Council and Dungarvan Town Council purchased goods, services and works to the value of €45.2m in 2010.  This expenditure extends across a broad range of goods and services that include major capital contracts, hire of plant, professional and consultancy services, road materials, water services supplies, IT equipment, Stores items, hardware supplies, stationery, insurance and banking services.

When purchasing goods, services or works Waterford County Local Authorities must have regard to national policy and guidelines, and comply with local, national and EU rules and regulations governing public procurement.  National and EU regulations are available on the Irish Government’s procurement opportunities website www.etenders.gov.ie (under Guides / Legislation)

Waterford County Local Authorities operate in accordance with the Department of Finance Circular 10/10 Facilitating SME Participation in Public Procurement.  All tenders for goods and services with an estimated value greater than €25,000 excluding VAT and €50,000 for works and works related services are advertised on www.etenders.gov.ie.
