The Motor Taxation Department, has seen a continuing increase in activities at its offices in Dungarvan and Tramore during 2007, even with the advent and promotion of motor tax on-line. A multimedia screen is in place in the waiting area providing constantly updated information for the general public. The office issues vehicle licence discs, full driving licences and learner permits, certificates of roadworthiness for goods vehicles, trailer licence cards, trade plates to the motor industry and sundry receipts. In addition various non financial transactions are dealt with.

Approximately 29% of cars are taxed in the Civic Offices in Tramore, an increase of 1% on 2006. An average of 21% of motorists processed tax on-line each month. Motor Tax income is transferred to the Local Government Fund, which is under the control of the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government. In 2007 Waterford County Council paid over total receipts of €11,220,859, an increase of just over €616,000 on 2006. Excluding on-line, a total of 73,144 individual financial transactions were processed locally, an increase of 2,324 on the previous year. All information signs and almost all application forms are bilingual and business may be carried out in the Irish language.
