Waste Services
Did you know that if you do not segregate your waste you may be fined?
Waterford County Council Household Waste Byelaws came into force in 2003. They help us to achieve national and regional recycling targets. They also help to divert the amount of reusable material going to landfill sires According to the byelaws:
- Wheelie bins must be closed and not overflowing to avoid causing litter
- Materials must be separated and placed in the correct collection system
- Brown Bin
- Clear Sack
- Refuse Bin
- Contaminated bins/sacks will not be collected
- Glass bottles and jars must be placed in the bottle banks
- The burning of household waste is prohibited
These byelaws also apply to householders who have refuse collected by private contractors. Fixed penalties will be imposed on householders who fail to comply with the Byelaws.
