Household Hazardous Waste

Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) may be brought to any of the 3 Recycling Centres located in Dungarvan, Tramore or Lismore.
According to the Council's Environment Education Officer "there is a whole range of materials in households that have the potential to cause environmental pollution if they are not disposed of correctly.  With these new facilities, the Council aims to divert hazardous waste from landfill and to raise awareness about the opportunities that we all have to prevent and minimise this difficult waste stream".

The installation of these collection points for household hazardous waste is a further milestone in the Council's ground breaking recycling campaign.

The EPA's National Hazardous Waste Management Plan has recorded an increasing trend in the amount of hazardous waste generated in Ireland over the past few years.  Hence, the need to counteract the trend.  Because prevention is better than cure, the Council has produced a special information leaflet for householders that shows the alternatives that can be used for some of the toxic cleaning products. This Hazardous Waste leaflet is available for download from the Publications page on the left.
