Sustainable Transport

Sustainable Transport

Transport now accounts for 30% of Ireland’s primary energy consumption, up from 22% in 1990. Commercial vehicles are responsible for 40% of this, with other road vehicles accounting for a similar proportion. Currently, private vehicles have their VRT and road tax determined by their CO2 emissions. Commercial vehicles however still have their VRT and road tax determined by Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) and type of vehicle. Businesses / home owners can still benefit from the purchase of energy efficient vehicles due to significant reductions in operational costs.
