Sustainable Transport

Transport now accounts for 30% of Ireland’s primary energy consumption, up from 22% in 1990. Commercial vehicles are responsible for 40% of this, with other road vehicles accounting for a similar proportion. Currently, private vehicles have their VRT and road tax determined by their CO₂ emissions. Commercial vehicles however still have their VRT and road tax determined by Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) and type of vehicle. Businesses / home owners can still benefit from the purchase of energy efficient vehicles due to significant reductions in operational costs.
