Seven Villages Sewerage Scheme

This scheme will provide an upgraded sewerage system in the following seven towns and villages in County Waterford:

  • Ardmore
  • Ballyduff/Kilmeaden
  • Cappoquin
  • Dunmore East
  • Kilmacthomas
  • Stradbally
  • Tallow

Once constructed, the scheme will provide a new, modern wastewater treatment plant, along with new or upgraded foul and stormwater sewers, in each of the above towns and villages. The construction will come in two phases, namely:

  1. Collection Systems for each town/village comprising sewer pipes and pump stations as necessary. Each Collection System will be let as individual contracts.
  2. The seven wastewater treatment plants will be let as one single contract. The successful tenderer will design, build and operate all seven treatment plants for a twenty-year period.

The main objectives for the scheme are to provide adequate sewage treatment for each town/village in order to comply with the Urban Wastewater Treatment Regulations, 2001, and also to allow sustainable development to take place in each of the towns and villages. The design of the sewerage schemes will ensure that adequate capacity is available for a design horizon of the year 2025. The following table lists the design capacity for each town and village in terms of population equivalent (p.e.):

LocationDesign Capacity (p.e)
Ardmore 3,377
Ballyduff/Kilmeaden 1,433
Cappoquin 2,754
Dunmore East  8,314
Kilmacthomas  1,902
Stradbally  1,185
Tallow  2,527

The current estimated contract cost for the entire scheme is €46.90 million. Work has commenced on the Collection System in Tallow in September 2007 and it is estimated that all the works will be completed by late 2011/early 2012.
