The original Dunmore East Water Supply Scheme was constructed in the 1950’s based on abstraction from Belle Lake, 5 km north west of the village.  This scheme serviced the Villages East of Waterford City including Dunmore East, Woodstown, Passage East, Crooke, Faithlegge, Cheekpoint and the contiguous Rural area. Due to growth in demand in the supply area arising from population increase, the capacity of this source was exceeded in the late 1970’s.  Consequently, a 250 mm trunk main was laid along the coast road between Tramore and Dunmore East to augment the supply to the village of Dunmore East with water from Tramore, thereby freeing up capacity of Bellelake for the balance of the Area.  Following commissioning of the East Waterford Supply treatment plant in Adamstown in 1984, water from that plant was fed into Tramore and thence to Dunmore East with the bulk of the supply to the latter currently originating at the Adamstown waterworks.
The proposed improvements are as follows.

  • Alter source reservoir from Sporthouse to Ballydrislane with provision of booster pumping at Corrbally Cross.
  • Provide a new ground level reservoir at Coxtown East, 1870m³ TWL 70 m.O.D.
  • Provide a Water tower and associated pumps at Coxtown East to supply high level areas 430m³ TWL 85 m.O.D.
  • Upgrade the existing network to cater for future demands and the fire flows.

There is also an option for servicing of Waterford Airport via a new watermain overland from Ballydrislane reservoir.
